I have loved reading β€οΈβπ since childhood. I’m pretty sure I popped out with my nose in a book. π Do you remember the first time you opened a book and got lost in its pages? I do…well kinda. In more of a general sense that is. The moment that sticks out from my childhood reading adventures is getting caught the first time reading by flashlight π¦ in the middle of the night by my mom. π€·ββοΈ It’s a story I still tell and it was the moment that marked the beginning of a lifelong love affair with books and reading.
From the moment I learned to read, I’ve been captivated by the magic πͺof words on paper π (now words on my Kindleπ±). Today, I want to share how my love for books has evolved over the years and why I believe starting a book blog is both therapeutic and a fun way to share my bookisms.
A Lifetime of Literary Adventures
For as long as I can remember, books have been my constant companions. They have helped me through every single phase of my life.
My love for reading only grew as I got older. Unfortunately, as I got older my eyesight also got worse. My contact prescription got so bad (-10, -10.50) that I had to start wearing reading glasses π to read. So, I slowly started wearing my regular glasses rather than dealing with contacts and reading glasses. Unfortunately, I am at a point where even with my regular glasses, I have a hard time seeing up close. This year when I have my eye exam I will have to discuss my options. Having these issues makes reading a regular paper book difficult. Thankfully I have had a Kindle for years. I currently have the Kindle Scribe and a smaller Kindle Paper White. Because I can change the size of the font on these devices, I can read until my heart is content.
I love roaming through bookstores. I can do it for hours. I just cannot always buy the books I want because I literally cannot see the words on the pages because the font is so small. Sadly, most bookstores either don’t have a large print section or a limited large print section. π€·ββοΈ It is what it is. Thankfully, I have my Kindles.
Regardless of the struggles I have with my eyesight, I have always seen each book as an opportunity to explore new worlds, gain new insights, and escape the everyday for a while.
